South Downs Cellars opened its doors in 2003, with the goal of selling quality wines at a variety of price points that were not mass-produced or widely available on the High Street. Run only by enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff, they have built a fabulous business, with two shops and a thriving wholesale business. They stayed loyal to their original principles of only selling high-quality wines from the smaller, family-owned vineyards from Sussex and around the world, along with a broad range of craft beers and spirits and are now dealing directly with multiple small and privately owned vineyards and breweries around Europe.
Not only do South Downs Cellars hunt for the best flavours globally and across Europe, but they have sourced plenty of Sussex wines ripe for the picking and drinking. Some highlights include a range of Sussex sparkling wines from Albourne Estate, Bolney Estate, Leonardslee, Nutbourne Vineyard, Poynings Grange Vineyard, Rathfinny Wine Estate, Ridgeview Wine Estate, Court Garden Farm, and many more local options. Still Sussex wines on offer include Artelium’s Pinot Gris from grapes grown in West Sussex and Rathfinny Wine Estate’s high-quality stills. South Downs Cellars also carries a variety of locally sourced Sussex beers and spirits in addition to their wine selection. Their large and changing variety of beers come from Sussex breweries including Only With Love, Harveys, Dark Star, Long Man, Two Tribes, and plenty more to explore. In addition to their own programme of wine tastings throughout the year, they are delighted to hold a number of tasting events in conjunction with their brilliant partners across Sussex.
