Roots Catering is the in-house team of talented chefs based at the beautiful Southend Barns wedding venue, who combine the best ingredients with flair and experience to create the most delicious dishes. The ethos behind Roots is to use local, seasonal and fresh produce, sourced from a collection of suppliers they know and trust. Their kitchen garden produces lots of wonderful ingredients including vegetables, fruit, herbs and eggs from their own Southend chickens. They only use Red Tractor assured meat and sustainably sourced fish in all their dishes. In fact, they love local so much, they’ve created a map on their website which shows where their food and drink comes from!
Their selection of drinks is carefully curated to support and highlight local artisan companies based in Sussex. For their English Sparkling, they choose Tinwood, while their “Southend Craft Lager” and other bottled ales come from Hepworth Brewery. Their coffee is sourced from Cast Iron, and they get milk directly from the Goodwood Estate. Other products they serve include Silly Moo Cider, Sussex Ice Cream, Brighton Blue Cheese, Nutbourne Tomatoes, Siddlesham Strawberries, Wittering Blueberries, Southdowns Water, Brilliant Pink and Chichester Gin.
Set on a working farm which has been in the Southend Barns family for over six decades, the provenance of the food served there is something they all feel passionately about.
