Three Sussex Street Food vendors were announced as Grand Finalists in the Sussex Food & Drink Awards 2016 at a special event held in Lewes yesterday [25 October], which attracted thousands of food lovers.
Boca Loco from Arundel, Jah Jyot Punjabi Street Food from Southwater and The Troll’s Pantry from Brighton were declared Grand Finalists by Town Crier Jon Borthwick, after a strict judging process, led by Masterchef: The Professionals Winner Steven Edwards, with food journalist Andy Lynes and sponsors Food Rocks and Hepworths Brewery, supported by votes from the public.
Said Hilary Knight, co-director of Natural Partnerships CIC, organisers of the awards: “This is the first ever Sussex Street Food of the Year competition, which we created to celebrate our tenth birthday – but it has proved so popular with the public and our brilliant Sussex street food vendors that we will continue it as part of the annual awards next year.”
The finalists who were invited to participate in yesterday’s event, following a public nomination process, included Garden Grove Pizzeria from Brighton, Garlic Wood Farm from Steyning, Boca Loco from Arundel, Jah Jyot from Southwater, Sussex Charmer on Toast from Rudgwick, Sussex Lamb from Horsham, The Little Blue Smokehouse from Crowborough, The Pig & Jacket from Lewes, The Troll’s Pantry from Brighton and Mama C’s from Eastbourne.
The three Grand Finalists are invited to the tenth birthday Sussex Food & Drink Awards Banquet on 28 January 2016, hosted by patron to the awards, Sally Gunnell OBE, and Danny Pike from BBC Sussex. Tickets are now on sale for this very special awards ceremony which includes a spectacular seven-course Sussex produce banquet created by Sodexo Prestige at the Amex Stadium.
